How to Choose Your Wedding Veil
by Roxanne Buffone, May 27 2010
1)Wedding veils should compliment the wedding gown, so find your gown first. Bridal veils help bring out the best features of the wedding gown rather than hide them.
2)Determine the best length for your wedding veil.
The shape and style of your wedding gown can guide you with this decision. The end of the bridal veil creates a focal point, so you want your wedding veil to end above or below any major features on your wedding gown to prevent competition. A dress with amazing embroidery around the floor level should not be paired with a chapel veil (a floor length veil) that would end right where the spectacular embroidery is.
What is your dream wedding like? Part of your length decision is personal preference. Are you dreaming of a royal wedding with a long train? A cathedral length veil will spread out still allowing your gown to be seen clearly. Do you like vintage style? Birdcage wedding veils add a vintage look with short French net veils.
Also watch how wedding veils can place focus on or away from body parts. If you want focus away from your hips then be sure your veil doesn't end right at hip level, consider waltz length wedding veils which end at knee length. If you want your shoulders hidden chose a veil that will cover them, like an elbow veil in the 2 tier oval style.
Consider your budget. A short veil is an inexpensive veil compared to the longer veils. Wedding veils with one tier instead of two or three can save you money.

3)Your wedding veil should be the same color as your gown.If you cannot find an exact match, it is best to go with a shade lighter for your bridal veil. A champagne veil can be hard to match, and it often helps to compare ivory and diamond white wedding veils too. We'd be happy to send you free

4)Choose what type of veil edge you want on your bridal veil. Your wedding gown can help determine this. What is it made of? What trims or embellishments are on it? Choose a wedding veil with a similar edge.
A wedding gown with a great deal of trim and beading may work better with a bridal veil that has a simple edge, to keep it from looking too busy.
A simple wedding gown may do well with a more elaborate edge, adding a touch of detail to spice up the look.

5) To Have Embellishment on the bridal veil or not? Again the dress will determine this plus your own personal preference. Crystals or pearls can be sprinkled throughout the veil or just at the edge. Beaded wedding veils add some sparkle and interest. Or it may work better keeping it simple with subtle clear HFT "no mirror" crystals or clear crystals beads or none at all. Wedding veils should highlight your gown and work with it.
